Judicial Watch — FOIA litigation and government transparency.

Tom Fitton has been president of Judicial Watch, a conservative government-watchdog and FOIA-litigation foundation, since 1998. Under his leadership the group has filed thousands of FOIA requests and hundreds of lawsuits seeking government records (Clinton emails, Benghazi, the IRS, Uranium One). He hosts the 'Judicial Watch Weekly Update,' is a frequent conservative commentator and Trump ally, and wrote the bestsellers The Corruption Chronicles and Clean House.

In their words

There was investigation into the Clinton Foundation that was ultimately shut down by the Biden admin & evidence was destroye…

The strongest case

FOIA and open-records litigation are essential democratic tools for holding officials of both parties accountable, forcing disclosure of documents agencies would otherwise bury, and a persistent, well-funded outside watchdog is needed because government does not police its own transparency.

And against

Critics, including some ethics watchdogs and judges, contend much of his voter-roll and 2020-election-fraud advocacy is politically motivated and legally weak, and note that Fitton, who is not a lawyer, reportedly advised Trump he could keep presidential records, encouraging his resistance to returning classified documents from Mar-a-Lago.

On the record

No personal criminal record or conviction for Fitton is on record. Judicial Watch, the organization he leads, is a party to numerous FOIA lawsuits as its core function, notably its long-running Clinton email litigation (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State). That is organizational litigation, not a personal legal matter. [source]
